I don't know what's wrong with me, my natural default is to go against the grain if the majority hates something. I want to like it. If the majority likes something, I want to hate it. And that's how i felt when the majority were loving the three singles that were dropped from Oh Yeah: "nice shoes", "the feeling", "is it cool?". I didn't really care for them. I hated nice shoes, i only like the feelings because of that "am i your baby?" part, and is it cool? was bearable at most.
So I expected the rest of the album to leave me feeling the same. But on July 17, I sided with the majority. The songs as a collective were smooth, and hearing them together helped me enjoy each individual track. What's even crazier is that "Nice Shoes" turned out to be my FAVORITE song on the entire album. It's impossible for me to listen to that song and not dance.
Like any other Steve Lacy album, Oh Yeah is about love. But unlike any other Steve Lacey album, this one approaches love with a sense of humor. As I listened, I couldn't stop picturing early 2000s rom-coms. Every song felt like it belonged to a different movie, so here's the rom-com I think matches each track.
